There are a lot of bright PhDs from Stanford, Harvard and other schools but only one Larry Page/Sergey Brin. They didn't have any management experience, entrepreneurial experience, nor apprenticing when starting Google.
They met a need for lots of people. Their values lead to long term success, but their short term growth was due to meeting a need in the marketplace and doing really well.
